I’ve had this problem for a while now but ignored it since it wasn’t a serious issue. Now I’m getting into PvP, I need PC2PC coms back up, so I’m hoping someone can give me some suggestions about what’s going on here. Though I’ll understand if a mod decides to drop this thread because its not game related, I feel it’s a GW related problem, in a sense: I need TeamSpeak and Vent for more effective PvP, and I can’t get that without P2P port forwarding enabled.

I have a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router that’s on the fritz; model# BEFSR41. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get port-forwarding to enable. Specific (shareware) programs inform me that I am behind a NAT firewall and unable to communicate with other computers. I’ve tried several times to get the hardware to set port protocols for apps, and the GUI SAYS that port forwarding is enabled for the ports I’ve chosen, but when I try to use it, nothing happens. I’ve disconnected from the router in the past and plugged the PC directly to our modem and P2P applications ran fine, so it’s not a PC issue.

Things it isn’t:

Its not that the program is set to receive data from one port while I have port forwarding enabled to another.

Its not a software compatibility issue. Since I can talk to the router just fine, I’m pretty sure that it’s receiving my commands. In fact, I know it is. Like I said, I was able to enable port forwarding so my PC can talk to the router.

Things it might be:

Firmware is out of date. I tend to avoid updating firmware as a last resort, and I have tried to update this routers firmware once, but it was finicky and I’m unfamiliar with the specific process for this router. If anyone has updated firmware before, by all means tell me how. I don’t see what firmware has to do with port forwarding; its just bug fixes. But if this is a bug, then that explains it, so I’ll need to update firmware.

I’m missing a step somewhere. Obviously. I just don’t know which one. Set port forwarding for 3000 on the router and 3000 for the app and everything should be able to talk P2P; that simple. Is there anything else that I need to do?

Since this is the fairly common Radioshack model, I’m hoping someone can give me a quick step by step on this particular router.

Itsounds like you have a good start on trouble shooting and these types of things can be very frustrating.

The quick and dirty fix is to place your machine in the DMZ and rock on, however that is going to most likely cause you some securty issues if you are not properly firewalled on your system and could possibly open your network up to exploit. turning on your windows firewall and making sure it is set up properly will probably keep you safe enough while playing the game.

I am guessing you need the router for other machines on the network or else this wouldn't be posted . Documentation for team speak states that no ports should need to be forwarded for the client only situation, however it does list the ports that it uses.

The TeamSpeak Client doesn't usually require any configuration of routers or firewalls. Do NOT setup your router to do port-forwarding or similar, as this is only needed when running the server.
